Customer Reviews & Ratings
Lived in Tidewater for 10+ years and I ate their steak and cheese sub 3 or 4 times a week. Everytime I went to Lowe's for materials, I'd buy a steak and cheese sub phenomenal
I can't get enough of their hot pastrami sandwich. Pastrami is hard to come by in this area, but this shop delivers! I wish they offered a real pastrami Reuben, but this sandwich tops many of the high end, over rated delis in the area!
Best Cheesesteak in big island. It's the roll. Trust me, I'm east coast, and know what matters. Amazing Cheesesteak. Thank you
One thing that I know is to never judge a book by its cover when it comes to how a restaurant looks from the exterior. In this case a food stand outside of a hardware store. The smell drew me in the first time while visiting Lowe's and so glad I took a chance. A line is always a good sign that there are likely regulars and that spells something good is going on. The menu is posted on the outside and is simple fair type with burgers, sausages & cheesesteaks. The one young guy running the grille was friendly and recommended the cheesesteaks which I gotta say as a lover was suspicious. However I was willing to risk it on the off chance this food stand in a parking lot could actually deliver a fabulous steak. The price was affordable for a footling around $10 and added a bottle water and tip came to $13+ The cheesesteak was completed in around 8 minutes wrapped up and in a bag with napkins. I popped it open in the car and was amazed at the pure size and amount of meat. The smell was glorious with steam waffling above. The bread was fresh and authentic to Philly. The only thing left was a bite and it did not disappoint one bit, just wowzers! It was good enough to return prior to writing a review. It ended up being a carbon copy of my success with another incredibly delicious cheesesteak. This time I used a nearby picnic table to enjoy. This is a chain food stand. The owner has two located at Lowe's in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach on Holland Rd. If you love cheesesteaks then Dominic's delivers a masterpiece and you will not be disappointed. A 4.5 rounding up and later learned Yelp friend Terry was a super fan of their steaks which was cool. Don't forget to pick up a punch card when you buy 6 your 7th is FREE!
Delicious! Super friendly staff is it weird that I loved his voice? He sounded like a radio host no joke lol anyways we got the chicken cheese steak, pastrami sandwich and a gyro. All was delicious. My only wishhhhh...it would have been bomb if there was fries w/the sandwiches!
Dominic's is a food truck that I'm obsessed with. I get their spicy Italian sausage with peppers and onions well done. When I get my food it's always hot and fresh and the sausage never disappoints. My only drawback is that I wish there were more locations! I tend to call in my orders since I like it cooked longer but you can do walk-up ordering as well. I've tried their Philly cheesesteaks which I liked and today I tried their bbq chicken sub. The chicken was super mushy so I didn't eat it but everything else was great!
It's been over four years since my original review of Dominic's of New York so it's high time for an update. I am upgrading my score to a full five stars. For what it is (basically a glorified food cart) the food and service are amazing and provide a decent value. Dominic's is a food stand in front of Lowe's home improvement store. It's basically in the parking lot so there are no tables or chairs and you need to be aware of cars driving behind you. They take cash and credit cards. This is strictly a takeout business, you can take it home or eat it in your car. They've been at this location for many years and make it so convenient to grab a delicious hot sandwich on your way out of the store or even make it a destination if you're tired of the usual nearby fast food options. They offer a variety of hot sandwiches and subs (chicken cheesesteaks, gyros, hotdogs, cheeseburgers, Italian sausage, pastrami, even a portabella mushroom sub if you want a vegetarian option) but honestly, the Philly cheesesteaks are so delicious I've never had the inclination to order the other items. The subs come in regular and large portions and they prepare them fresh in front of you while you wait. They don't skimp on the ingredients so you will get plenty of meat and cheese and and topping with lots and lots of deliciousness. You can make it a combo by adding a bag of chips and a soda. My wife loves the Philly steak and cheese so much she'll occasionally order me to make a special trip just to get her one. I moved to Hampton Roads after spending eight years in Philly so I know a thing or two about a genuine Philadelphia cheesesteak. This isn't it. While Dominic's tender and very flavorful product comes reasonably close it falls slightly short owing mostly to the bread. The fresh Amoroso roll (Amoroso's Baking Company is a local staple in the Philadelphia area) is generally the roll of choice for genuine cheesesteaks served in that area. In my opinion, the bread makes a huge difference. Other rolls tend to be more soggy when laden with the ingredients of your typical cheesesteaks. In any case, Dominic's still puts out a fabulous cheesesteak, one of my favorites in the area. Over the years there have been different young men behind the flat top grill but every one of them has been very friendly and efficient. They all seem to enjoy what they are doing and easily engage their customers in pleasant conversation while preparing an order. You're waiting outside exposed to the elements but even if it's cold or raining a little it's still a pleasing experience. Rest assured, the wait is always worth it.
